In the second half of the 19th century a city is stricken by a mysterious plague. The effect that this epidemic has on the City’s hospital and in particular the people who work there is life changing – especially for two of the hospital’s lowliest employees. The friendship of one poor man shown to his mentally tormented co-worker reveals how he came to be in such anguish and to such a humble position in life. Can friendship redeem his life or is he doomed to live his isolated existence for ever?

Neil O'Hara
Born and raised in Luton, I have worked many jobs from Office Junior to painter and decorator to a clerk in a local Post Office. After doing the first year of a Theology/Philosophy degree in Aberdeen I returned home and started writing my first novel, The Madness in Their Hearts. I went on to complete my degree in Philosophy at Hertfordshire, and an MA in London, and am now writing my PhD thesis whilst working on my second and third novels.200
